Ever since i hooked up my router to my modem when the phone rings twice i get kicked off the internet, what is wrong i have DSL. I thought that was suppose to not happen when you have DSL. I updated thr firmware on my router but the same thing happens. Anyoneknow of some way i could stop this from happening, it gets real annoying when i am playing SOCOM2 and have to try to hurry up and find the phone before it rings twice and then when i come back i am dead.

This is strange indeed. The splitter should separate the DSL signal from the phone line. Maybe you should contact tech support about that issue.

Sounds like you're missing a filter, or have a dud filter connected to your phone socket.

The filter is either an inline connector/adapter thingy, or a device built into the phone socket. Its purpose is to prevent the ADSL and phone signals from interfering with each other and what you're suffering is precisely that kind of interference.

You will normally require a filter (or wall socket with built-in filtering) for _each_ phone on the same line -- it only needs one unfiltered phone or fax for problems to appear.

Oh i might have found a problem, The phone jack is connected to my answering machine, If the answering machine does not have a filter would it would it cause the disconnection problem?

Yes, definitely. As mentioned above, the filter is designed to screen the interference from a phone signal out of your much-higher-frequency DSL signals. Without the filter, the modem attached to your DSL line may attempt to read phone calls as network information, which will of course result in garbage.

You should have gotten at least two or three when you signed up for your DSL service. Usually they look like small, rectangular devices about the size and shape of your thumb, with connectors to fit a phone line.
