Decoding MP3s

I wan't to be able to decode MP3s. My goal is to make a decoder myself. Getting information about how MP3s are compressed would be the best. But source to an MP3 decoder would work to.

LAME is the best one I know of. I think that should be what you need for a decoder + source.

You really don't want to try to write a decoder yourself - the format is ridiculously complicated (probably even worse than JPEG, assuming it's anything at all like OGG, as I would expect), and AFAIK the full standard isn't even open.
LAME isn't a decoder, it's an encoder. Writing a decoder yourself would be stupid (as there are many that already exist that do the job quite well) and extremely difficult (as was said before, the format is ridiculously complex).
