Which is the latest JDK version supported by IE/Netscape? Can I use 1.2 or even 1.3, or do I have to stick with 1.1.x?

JDK 1.1

and without the com.sun.swing classes part of the JDK 1.1 extension.

Well JDK 1.1.8 is better (and there is a Free BSD port, which is allways good) and you can risk the swing classes but i guess AWT is faster.
