Is it easy to make an easy chat program

i was woundering if it would be easy or hard to create a chat program like msn so who ever has the program(my friends and family) can chat without using msn.

Well, these are forums for programmers. So the guy just wants to learn himself how to do things and not just take whats already done, you know.

well thanks for all the help youve given me im sure i will have a simple chat program soon and i will keep it simple maybe a login name which doesnt have to be same everytime and no games or winks or whiteboard. i hope i can hear from you guys if i need any help in the future and hope i gain alot of knoladge by doing this project.

The SDL_net library comes with a demo app showing you how to make a very simple chat server and client. It might give you some ideas for getting started.

I'd highly reccomend taking a look at Planet Source Code for lots of examples of chat programs. For example, by searching chat in the C/C++ category, this is what came up. Note after 5 entry views you will need to register for a free account, but it's fast and free and well worth it! Good luck
