Also, to answer one of the Original Poster's questions, the OBJ format does not contain animations, so you can't export animations to the OBJ file at all.A problem I have noticed with blender is the most of the exports aren't perfect, or the imports for that matter. Some work, some don't. But the program as a modeller is great. I recommend you make your own format maybe and allow blender to export to it, or use the .x format and make your own exporter, including animations. I don't know how to do this myself, but I intend to learn it. I do my actual models in blender as well.
