Map file curiosity (Newbie)

Hi, I''m relatively new to OpenGL and programming and I''m trying teach myself. I used to like making Quake 2 levels. I know that they are compiled from .map files but what exactly does QBSP do to the files? Cheers Lukerd.

My guess:
Q - Quake
BSP - Binary Space Partitoned. BSP trees is that Q2 is using.
I think it creates the BSP tree for the level.
I am sure it do
