Okay, so capn_midnight's thread has prompted me to spawn something. Didn't really matter what it was, as long as I tried to make some effort to do it. In any case - one of my favorite threads on the lounge have been when Chemical_Imbalance posts a fun little D&Dish thread where we all eat rope and such. The problem with those is that he eventually has to go to sleep, and then it gets kind of boring. So I've come up with a solution! Each person is the wizard/DM/GM/piemaster of the previously posted post. Also, some more rules -
  1. Rope tastes like chicken.
  2. There is no more than one brothel in every other town.
  3. You're not allowed to kill, cripple, castrate, mutilate or rape more than one person in a single post.
  4. Each post must have either a meaningful 'results of command', or a command to be executed.
  5. In the case that the ropes of the storyline begin to untwine, refer to rule #1.
  6. You do not talk about fightclub.
  7. There are no rules.
Anyway. I'll start the story -
Long ago, a small but mighty humanoid kingdom existed in what is now the local wilderness. Bugbear and ogre warriors fought brutal wars of expansion, earning great fame and amassing considerable fortunes from their predations. Those who died in battle were buried in large tomb complexes dug into hillsides and honored as patrons of the living. Among these tombs was the large tor known as Hightower. Though it was neither the largest nor the most famous of the kingdom's tombs, Hightower did represent a typical example of this kind of structure. As happens to all such nations, the cruel humanoid kingdom eventually fell to a more powerful foe that razed all its cities and outlying fortifications. Of the tombs, only Hightower escaped destruction -- largely because it was an unimportant monument in a remote location. A few tribes of humanoids that survived the devastation tried to use it as a fortress, but the humans with whom they clashed defeated them soundly and sealed the entrance with a huge, round stone to ensure that the tor could no longer be used as a base. Since then, Hightower has served as a landmark for travelers in the know, but it has otherwise been largely forgotten. But the electrical storms that have plagued the area in recent days have been quite severe, and a few weeks ago, a stray lightning bolt broke open the stone seal. Tonight, yet another terrible storm is sweeping through the wilderness, driving all creatures to take shelter where they can find it. Hightower looms on the horizon, and its door is no longer blocked. > [Edited by - Mushu on October 6, 2006 11:16:14 PM]

Your idea is boring.

You suddenly get hit by a bolt of lightning and choose to reconsider your words, lest you be eaten by a grue. You also find a small piece of rope on the ground. A crow squalks at you from the lofty branches of a nearby tree.

It tastes like chicken, and leaves your a bit dry in the mouth. The crow squalks louder, and the stormclouds overhead hang threateningly low, and look about ready to make up words to describe their woesome rage.

Without further ado, you leap into the tree. Before the poor animal can even react, you have shoved it whole down your abnormally wide gullet. This sudden lack of foresight, however, has left you with a live crow in your stomache.

The crow unfortunately finds the bit of rope, and eats that, because crows you know will eat anything. Especially rope. Can't ever seem to get enough of that rope. After fluttering around some, it quiets down.

You see some rocks on the ground that were not previously visible, and hear what sounds to be a low-pitched grunt off in the distance.

Suppose that tomorrow an Alpha Centaurian scientist, Welcus Marby, visits
Earth and conducts a study of grass (as in lawns). His language contains
the color words "grue", which in English means "green until January
1, 1986, and blue afterward", and "bleen", which means "blue until
January 1, 1986, and green afterward." Over a few months, Marby
carefully examines many samples of grass from Oregon, Mexico, Hawaii,
etc., and finds them invariably grue. He concludes by inductive
reasoning that grass very probably will continue to be grue. Marby's
expectation is founded on the same basis as our belief in the coming
day.

But wait. If grue has the meaning described, then in our terms Marby
expects the color of grass to change abruptly from green to blue on
January 1, 1986. Surely, this belief cannot be well-founded. We confront
Marby with his irrationality:

US: How can you expect the color of grass to change?

Marby: I don't. I expect it to remain grue.

US: But you expect it to change to blue.

Marby: What does "blue" mean?

US: In your terms, it means "bleen until January 1, 1986, and grue
afterward."

Marby: "Blue" is a very strange word. Why should there be reference to
an arbitrary time? Surely, the properties of Terrene flora do not depend
upon a particular date on a calendar of historical origins. Your word
"green" is just as strange. I see now that it must mean "grue until
January 1, 1986, and bleen afterward." How can you possibly do science
well if you employ such ill-chosen predicates?

US: Our color predicates are time-independent. "Blue" means always blue.
"Green" means always green.

Marby: What you mean, speaking more precisely, is "green" always means
"green."

US: Well, yes. But your grue means changing from green to blue, and your
bleen means changing from blue to green.

Marby: My color predicates are time-independent in exactly the same
sense and to the same degree that yours are. Grue always means grue.

The shocking vision fades away, and you find yourself still stuck in the forest with lightning crackling overhead.

EDIT: Also, its perfectly fine to have multiple responses to a given command (see rule #5). More often than not, they'll work together fine.

You press north and leave the rocky grunting stony forest behind you as you come out into a grassy clearing. The waist-high grass is browning this time of year, and is gently swaying in what would otherwise seem to be a very rough storm. The air seems to be a little chilly here.

As you stride through the grassy field, you come to the sudden realization that matter and energy are two forms of the same substance which can be converted to and fro. To and fro. To and fro.

You quickly shake your head out of a possible infinite loop and notice the coldness seems to be radiating negatively from the grass. This realization leads you to conclude that the grass must be somehow leeching enriched uranium from the soil.

Thinking quickly, you take your knife and cut several bales of grass, and build a fire with your flint and tinder. You then use burn the bales into ash, weeping when you realize you could have produced some more tastey rope with it instead, and extract several small piles of enriched uranium from the ashes.

You figure you've got enough of enough concentration to reach critical mass, you just need to stick the two pieces together when you're ready.

Out of nowhere an epic Runesword appears out of no where - the good spirits must be listening today!

As you strab the baldrick on, you question why you'd need a sword when you've got a nuke. Oh well, it might serve come purpose later on.

You spy a small patch of grass you missed in the corner of the now charred, barren clearing.

It doens't take you long to realize that the grunts heard previously were not some crazed beast, but a die-hard merchant following the adventurer into the very depths of hell. Whoops, spoiler.

At least, it didn't take long once you saw him standing behind you in the clearing.

After some careful consideration, the merchant whose name is xyzzy decided to join you in your quest for lots of guns. You try to explain to him that you need lots of guns, not want to quest for lots of guns, but it seems something always gets lost in translation.

In any case, it appears he's gonna follow you no matter what.

You notice another crow at a far end of the clearing, some berries and a large troll. Wait, what?!
