The Neverwinter Nights 2 toolkit rocks.

So I was talking with that guy at work who told me that NWN2 pre-orders came with a code that would let you download the toolkit now (as well as in-game store rebates and cool items when the game launches.) I wanted to see what the toolkit would be like so I told myself, hey, why not, I'm not the kind of person to pre-order but that's a nice perk. Stop at GameStop on my way back. Pre-order. I arrive hope, create an account, login, enter the little code and go to the toolset download page. And man do the toolkit rocks... ... or at least it should when I finish downloading it. 2.2 Giga-freaking-bytes. That's a lot of midget porn. What the hell do they put in there ?

I don't understand the question.

Hamsters.
Oh, dammit. This thread had me all psyched. I was like "the game is out now?!"

But it's not. [crying]
do we still get the toolkit if we didnt place a preorder now, but when we buy it later?

Yeah, of course. It's just a "get something while you wait kind of deal"

You know...if its 2.2 gigabytes worht of midget porn...I wonder how much of the game you're actually getting now?

That's exactly what I thought [crying].

Tell us what you think of the editor. I really enjoyed Neverwinter Nights and tinkered around with the editor a bit myself, but it wasn't quite as user friendly as I'd hoped.

It's coming on Halloween guys.

Anyway, I owe you a "I'm tired and played with it 30 seconds before going to bed" review after tricking you into viewing this thread.

It's packed full of features. It seems incredibly powerful. It's rather easy to use in a 'I understand how it works' kind of way, but the usability's a nightmare. I still haven't found how to move the camera. I'm running it on a laptop with another screen plugged in, both widescreens, on Vista, and it doesn't seem to like any of that. It's probably written in .NET and has a very 'Visual Studio' feel to it. Including the exact same property window as VS.

There wasn't much blueprints for standard creatures and items, I suppose that's to prevent spoilers. Either that or I didn't find them. The 2.2 gigabytes are probably due to models and textures. It's not that pretty, if the editor renderer's anything like the in-game renderer, which it probably isn't.

Scripting seems incredibly good and there's a rich event model as far as I can see, even to sometimes downright ridiculous specifiable on a per creature basis. If you're interested in fantasy RPGs and can deal with the AD&D system, this has everything you need.

If the toolkit is an indicator... It's going to fly over the already high bars left by BG and NWN. Can't wait to play it.

Edit: Ah! Found the default creature blueprints. I might have been slightly unfair in my usability criticism. It's a really complex piece of software and I can't expect to understand it in a 5 minutes trial. I'll comment on it more toroughly tomorrow.

I'm interested to know about it's object management - if you've got thousands of objects chilling in your scene, and you need to find all objects with say "necro" in the title, is it easy?
