Hi, I have enjoyed browsing the tutorials on nehe.gamedev.net and would like to start using openGL. I have been programming in C for a few years and have done 3d applications with Allegro, but openGL is clearly much better. Whenever I run openGL applications on my computer thay are very slow, as I have an old computer with no accelerator card. I dont have much money to upgrade my computer, so I was wondering which card you would recommend I get for some opelGL programming. If you know where I can pick one up second hand, so much the better. I have heard that the common 3dfx is not recommended for this sort of thing, so what would suit my system best, it has: Pentium 200 MMX 64 Mb RAM Mtrox Mystique 4mb video card.

Get an Nvidia-based card.

Considering your CPU speed, I would recommend an older card, such as one based on the TNT or TNT2 chipset (e.g. Diamond Viper V550 or V770). You can probably get one for a very good price.

Get, the new Kyro, it won''t displease.
Do those Diamond viper's come with in PCI? My computer has no AGP slots.
If not, do you have any other good examples which do?

I know the V550 does, and I am pretty sure the V770 does too.

Radeon SDR PCI.
I know that the Geforce 2 MX has some (I''m not sure how common) PCI versions out there. The lowest price on the AGP version I''ve seen is $75, and it is good enough to last you through an upgrade to your other hardware.
