What's your problem with Glide? It rocked! As easy to use as drinking fresh water, fast as D3D and open to low level tricks. I was fond of that API.

The beginning of the end was to open 3dfx hardware to OpenGL and D3D. They had a proprietary API and they were market leaders. They had to force everybody to use only Glide, providing no support for D3D and OpenGL, on the other side they had to put malicious code somewhere to prevent people to develop Glide wrappers. That's how you enforce a de-facto monopoly!

Unluckly they decided to open their hardware to the world and vanished.

10 years later, I'm still sure the wrong company won the graphics accelerator war.
