Both. Used to put in ~2 hours on guitar a day when I was in high school. Now I'm lucky to get in 2 hours a week.
I play guitar practically exclusively
i.e I dont play games, I might try out a game for less than a minute though.
The last time I played a game > an hour would prolly be warlords battlecryIII

As has been pointed out, you're asking a game development site, which really isn't the same thing as a gamers' site. We all have in common a certain masochistic desire to throw ourselves at grossly adverse challenges with highly desired long-term fruits in mind, which fits both game dev and learning a musical instrument to a tee.
Also, yes to selection bias - I came in here because I'm a guitarist, too. If anything, I don't play video games very much these days because I'm too time/cash-strapped from the computer science/game dev warpath.
I play roughly equal amounts of bass and various games, going by sheer time spent.
Speaking of "Real-Guitar Hero", has anyone heard any news on Guitar Rising? I saw it at GDC a couple years back and it looked absolutely incredible, but that was the last I've heard of it.
