Hi,
I bought a new motherboard recently (Asus P7H55-M) to upgrade my server, and I see it has a connector for HD Audio or AC'97 audio. My case has the following connectors:
Speaker: L-OUT, R-OUT, RET-L
Mic: GROUND, MIC-PWR, MIC-IN, RET-R
However, the manual for the motherboard says that an AC'97 audio module should be connected as:
AGND, NC, NC (Blank), NC
MIC2, MICPWR, Line out_R, NC, Line out_L
Which isn't enough pins to connect my front-pannel audio to (I'm missing RET-L and RET-R).
So, my question is, can my front-pannel audio be connected to this, or is it the wrong setup (I don't really care if so, my old mobo didn't have an AC'97 connector at all), and if so, what should be connected to what?
Cheers,
Steve
AC'97 motherboard connector - Not enough pins
I found This Document linked from the Wikipedia page on AC'97, and it says (on page 20) that the pinout should be:
AUD_GND, AUD_GND, FP_RETURN_R, (Blank), FP_RETURN_L
MIC, MIC_PIAS, FP_OUT_R, AUD_5V, FP_OUT_L
Should I just connect my front pannel connector up like that (Which means connecting RET-L and RET-R to one of the NC pins)? Is this likely to damage the motherboard?
