I've recently got really interested in psychology aspect of game design, but it ain't easy finding resources about it on the net. So I thought I'd start a topic to share articles, literature and various misc links which have psychology/behavior and game design in common.

I'll start, please add links you stumble upon, or know from before!

Of course, the archives of this forum are rich in discussion about player psychology and motivation. You could try using the advanced search, probably limit the range to the design forum, and put in psychology or motivation as a search term, or addiction, or whatever you are particularly interested in.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

I did do a short paper that looked at the psychological approaches in the game Eufloria. Its probably not refined enough to post here but if I can find it I'll post the bib here.

In the mean time I'll dump the names of the PDFs used in the lecture just Googling them should throw up the related document, I have been planning on downloading them at some point as a backup but not got around to it yet. If people really want me to I can probably speed the process up and shove them in a zip file somewhere for people to download.

Your links are all broken, bigdeadbug :(

Also, how come I see the HTML code when try to edit the post, resulting in post becoming a complete mess? :/

If you reread the bit at the beginning of BigdeadBug's post you will see that he didn't supply links, just titles. He suggested using google to find links to the titles.

For the html, after you hit edit, do you see a menu below the posting box, on the left side? There should be an option "no html". But there are several cases where it's useful to see html when editing a post so that's why it's possible to do so.
