It's getting harder to be myself in real life...

Popular things have to be bland in order to appeal to a large base. Because a significant portion of humanity will be pissy about any given dash of flavor. I'll never understand all those people who are happy that gaming became mainstream.

Most dedicated gamers are still stuck in the same position as they were before. Its like how Harry Potter is so popular but I'm still a [generic profane insult] because I read A Wizard of Earthsea. God forbid I try to say I prefer it and why.

Meanwhile the ancient dreams of gaming have failed to materialize. EVE Online is the last bastion of true MMOs. And by that I mean the way they were imagined in near future sci fi. Whether you like WoW or not, its certainly not anything like what people were dreaming of back in the day.

RTSes became MOBAs. MMOs became WoW. And so on. But gaming is more popular now right? Fantastic. If only the popular games were ones I wanted to play...

Your topic title is rather misleading.(IMO)

I somehow had the idea that playing games or being here was chaninging you in unforseen ways, and you were going to tell us about it. Which you did, to a degree, I guess.

Maybe it's just since I'm a psych major, focus on the studying of internet gaming behavior that I had asumptions about what you were going to talk about, Forgive me, I'm still new to this community.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

As a rule of thumb, people don't make sense half the time in the Lounge. I'm really not sure what I was thinking either. I wanted to rant about games, but I was also building off someone else's topic. Maybe I expected to create a trend of a million spin-off threads like the old days of the Lounge? Lol.

I agree overall. I would say it's hard for users to find many indie games.

I pay a lot of attention to indie games and mods and a few manage to slip by me too- including 'nobreak valet'.

That game looks like a lot of fun btw.

Truth is, indie games dont have the same FLASH or AD CAMPAIGNS to reach the audiences as easily.

Thankfully the big companies have done such a dreadful job making their games actually fun (focusing way too much on flair) to make thier games actually fun.

For that reason indie games are receiving a bit more attention.

Not only have indie games had much more original games in the past few years they pioneered all kinds of new ways TO sell games.

Remember when Riot Games was a small company? They created a model where they made it f2p, they made skins you had to buy, and then promoted the hell out of the competitions.

Humble Bundles have definitely helped a lot of people I've been trying to convince for years that Indie games are where the fun games have gone XD

Not all big titles have been bad but... yeah. Most of them are kinda boring.

Anyway.

Maybe that's what you need to work on

make games that you think everyone could enjoy :D

I'm probably just strunk to respond, but is there actually an archive or something like that online that keeps track of all/most (indie-)games out there ?
If not it 'd either be an idea for gamedev or any developer with plenty of time.

I dont play AAA games since 2005. i cant really enjoy them. not becouse they are AAA, or mainstream, becouse they are crap. I cant enjoy anything that is an ,,I go and look out from my head and shoot FPS veriation #46526''. Also, i dont like these new kind of indie craps. I dislike even angry birds, and such approaches. I just cant play with them. They are too boring.

So i not really play since a while. Last games i played for significant time was in flash.

There is quality questions in a game, those are important for me. Such demands are:

-a game should not use any special 3d acceleration. If i want to play it on a pentium4 laptop with dx7 graphics, or on a random low-end android cell phone, no matter what, or how, but it MUST run, must look enjoyable.

-a game should not be bigger than 50 mbyte (compressed)

-a game must load within ~3 seconds. after ~3 seconds, the game must be begin.

-a game should run in a small window in default (for PC-s).

-a pc game should not need too many interaction. i want to work, and/or communicate on internet while i play with the game.

You're several months late. Please don't do that.
