I'm not sure that I fully understand your question and I have no first hand experience with marketing so please take my opinion with a grain of salt, but it has been my experience that android games are more enducive to impulse buying as opposed to computer games which I usually put more thought and research into before buying. It is my uninformed opinion that if a game is small enough to run on an Android device, it would probable get better sales numbers through a mobile app stores than on steam. I would run this by an experienced indie developer before acting on it, but it has been my personal experience.

I hope this helps,

According to my research and experience as a game developer:

Android/iOS games can be simple and do well, but needs a great amount of marketing to stand out from the crowd. You can't use Kickstarter or Steam to build awareness of the game.

PC games need a lot more features to do well, but you can use a lot more avenues to market the game.

to be successful

Define successful.

is it possible

Yes, success is possible. You may not be able to afford it, and therefore rely on luck rather than business acumen.

With enough money for design iterations, development quality, and marketing, many businesses are able to reliable create profitable games. They can cost a few million dollars each and some are quite unprofitable, but with a steady stream of them the income outpaces the expense, making the collectively profitable.
