Gaming Engines and Learning Technology

I have posted this in a few forums on other sites. I apologize for the cross-posting

I am a Learning Technology exec with 25 years in the education industry building digital content, enterprise learning systems and virtual campuses. I am in the process of forming a learning content development company and want to ensure I include immersion technologies such as those provided for my gaming engines in my plans.

Unfortunately, I am terribly ignorant about this field.

I am wide open to any suggestions you might have. Are there "must reads" and "must sees" that I don't want to miss. Are there specific technologies I should be examining? I am planning to engage a CTO early in the process who has significant senior management experience in the gaming industry. Any suggestions about skills or experience for that hire?

Again, I am in the very early stages of formation. Working on my business plan, proof-of-concepts, business organization, funding, etc. Any suggestions will be MOST appreciated.

Thanks!
