come on, there are way too many posts on some forums for this to be practical. on the more active forums, there are a good 5 screen fulls of listings, and due to ASP this takes a good 3 full seconds to display on my computer (not to mention the load on the server?). in the old UBB you could set this yourself, but i cant find that option anywhere now (other than changing it manually every time you load a topic listing). it wouldnt be so bad if the "next/previous topic" worked, but it doesn''t, it just shoves you the most recent post over and over. you HAVE to reload the main topic listing every time you want to change topics. i just think its very impractical. 5 days of posts is more than enough, if you want more, select it manually..

Yeah, that''s right. Also, it''s either my browser or the cookie support on this board but every single post becomes "new" when I refresh the message board. Now what''s up with that!? I get that problem with both IE and Netscape browsers.
Next / Previous works exactly like people wanted it to work. It used to work by going to the next topic with the newest last post date, now it goes to the next topic by when it was posted.. and if it was the newest to be posted, it goes to itself. Same goes for the previous topics.

The number of days of posts to list is set globally for the board.

Michael, that''s a very misleading and confusing way for it to work. Who wanted it to work like that? "Next / Previous" implies next ACTIVE topic, not original date topic. The feature should be used to navigate the same way as clicking the topics one by one on the main forum listing, since that main page listing is sorted in order of ACTIVE topics.

The way you''re doing it, a 2 month old topic that "resurfaced" and is very active (reminds me of "General Programmers" topic), would never show up on your next/previous unless you clicked it about a million times.

Ya know, have it work like the UBB worked.. it was very intuitive. Don''t fix it if it ain''t broken
Mike, perhaps there was some miscommunication between you and I about how that feature should work. The way foofightr just described it is exactly how it should be. Also, perhaps we should add the "View last x0 days" as a preference setting for each person''s profile.
