looking for d3d 8 engine...
i want to write a first person game in direct3d 8 and don''t really want to take the time to write my own engine...has anyone out there written a simple engine i could use for my game?
thanks alot!!
Take a look at http://www.3dengines.de/. You should be able to find an engine that suits your needs.
thanks alot for the link...but most of the engines are either a dead link or using an old version of directx...anyone else have a newer engine i could use?
I tried an engine one time and it was a wast of time
if there will be a good CHEAP engine that really work
well this forum would have been empty.
For a tetris or so go on with an engine. For a first person game ... well.. perhaps just to give a try to 3d if you are new ?
I heard about RAD but the person who tell me about and was trying to make a simulator for it just ask himself now if it will continue this way...
If you are really not exigeant about quality/performance perhaps it will fit your need ?
My two cent

Normally a post like this would be flamed like there''s no tomorrow, but I''ll be nice...
First off, I can tell you now that you aren''t going to be satisfied with any free engine you find on the net. There is no such thing as simple, and they all have their flaws. I''d say that you''re just better off building your own 3d engine from scratch. Every good freelance game programmer has to do it someday, may as well start now.

Do I sense sarcasm?
I just remembered that there are these two engines, Jet 3d and Genesis 3d, floating around. Probably the best engines you''ll get for free... do a search for them at google.com or something and check them out.

Jet3d is a "newer" version of Genesis3D and its opensource I believe. But I didn''t like either. Don''t forget crystalspace. Its opensource... but probably OpenGL (because its the best... j/k
The best engine for its price has to be Torque

That's debatable, but I'd say that there are two main options out there that are really dominating the market... One is Quake III, and two is Unreal (Warfare?). However, these engines cost more money than I care to think about.
