Graphic/Visual Equalizer

How can I get frequency or amplitude information from DirectSound or DirectShow to be used with a graphics equalizer or similar effects?

Look into FFTs (I don''t think DSound has any built-in functions for this, but I could be wrong). There was a similar thread asking a similar question next week. Search the forums FFT or "fast fourier transform"
