    I figured it out, sorry. I was logging in with "Dario D." (notice the period), and it doesn't accept periods. I'm registered on zillions of forums, and I'm "Dario D." on almost all of them, so I forgot about the period thing here.

    No, the account "Dario D." Facebook Connect works, but it created this new account, "Dario Dinatale".
  3. You know how when you're working on a song, you often lose touch with how a fresh, outside person hears it, and thus can't tell if you're doing something wrong? Is there some trick you can use to hear your song from a fresh perspective? (not counting just putting it aside for a week, which isn't very productive.) I know that in digital art, if you reverse your image horizontally, you can suddenly see it anew, and immediately spot your mistakes. Does music have such a trick? (If not, someone should develop one. I'm SURE there's a way.) Thanks.
  4. Admin, I can't login with my usual account, "Dario D." (it was dormant for at least a year, I think.) The login won't take my old password, and, after doing 'reset password', it won't take the new one either. (I'm currently logged in via Facebook Connect, but that disconnects me from my old account.) Can anything be done about this? Thanks.
  5. Pro Tools hardware?

    Okay, so, it seems you need some external hardware if you want to use Pro Tools 8 LE. What's it for, exactly, aside from processing your effects? Also, is there a cheap way to do this? What I'm looking to do is basically just write music, w' Reason (in other words, make digital music, for production). I'm not using any external instruments or recordings. (been Googling this for a while, but can't find many specifics about what exactly the hardware is for. I don't know any Pro Tools or music terminology, thus I'm just searching for stuff like "mbox", and skimming Wikipedia articles)

    Heh, unfortunately, I can hardly be called "musically inclined". I can mash my way through a song (I've done a few), but me writing notes on paper, where I can't hear them, is not the most greatest of most great ideas.

    Ah, I see. $500 for the mid-range Mbox 2. :( How many channels is it a good idea to have, if you're working on tracks with full orchestra? Looks like the mid-range MBox has "4x2", whereas the Pro has "6x8".

  9. I've been doing quite some digging around, but can't decide which of the following apps would be best for my needs... Pro Tools LE 8 (I'll be using an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card, at least for now) Sonar 7 Producer I want access to samples such as this (http://www.eastwestsamples.com/details.php?cd_index=1128), which is why I'm only looking at the above 2 apps for now. Any suggestions, and things I need to know? The music I want to make will pretty much be like the examples in that link above, and I'll be using Vista/7 64-bit (I really don't think my Mac Mini will like running any of these apps. It doesn't even like Google Earth).

    Thanks for the very informative feedback, all! :) Yes, my intention has always been to provide full credit to the arranger, and let him know well beforehand if the project involves any compensation (and if it does, of course he'll get what's duly his). Creative input is also very welcome, for me. I don't pretend to know more about musical theory than someone who eats, sleeps, and breathes it, so I would *prefer* that the arranger feels free to rework whatever needs it. I've learned, from the art world, that this is often crucially important, especially if the other person knows more than you. Thanks again, all! Now I know how to proceed from here.

Probably a more odd question: If a composer were to come here looking for a composing/arranging buddy with which to pass melodies to, is it likely that he'd find anyone willing to take those melodies, and arrange them? Here's the deal... I'm stacked to the ceiling with crap to do (www.deefrag.com), and don't have time to arrange some of the songs I want to produce. So, what I'm wondering is if it's likely that I would find anyone willing to go co-op on some these, for whatever purpose: whether to work on his arranging portfolio, or just create some cool music. I'm not looking for anyone YET; I'm just wondering if it's even worth trying. I know from the video game mod community that there are certain types of people you can find with ease, and certain types that you almost can't find at all.   12. Contacting Publishers?

    Thanks, all. I've been able to get in contact with a few more now, but some simply don't have a means to reach anybody. When you call them, you can either get in touch with tech support, or put in a code to contact a particular person who works, if they're in your family or something. There's often no way to actually speak with anyone, as far as I'm aware, and there's no submission information on their sites. In particular, I'm referring to: Microsoft Game Studios Activision 2K Games I've been able to reach most others.
  13. Hello all. Long time no forums. :) Well, I've run into a bit of a problem. For the last month or so, I've been running in circles trying to find emails, phone numbers, etc for contacting the major game publishers in order to pitch my game, but I've only been able to get a hold of 2 so far. Is there a page/thread/site or something that lists how to get a hold of each publisher? At the moment, I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who works at Midway, but he's uncertain of the extent to which he can acquire contact info. Any pointers? It sucks not being able to get a hold of anyone like this. It seems these publishers rely on insider trading of their contact info in order for any devs to reach them.
  14. Community Based Game Development

    As others have said, I think it's quite possible, but very unlikely to succeed on a large scale, unless you have a hyper-talented community from which to pick and choose only the best people to work with (oh, and they have to be very motivated if you want them to actually stick around long enough to finish a game. Trust me on this). Letting just anybody in on the game will result in poor-quality output, such as what you see in many (but not all) PC game mods.

I have been in desperate search of some good stock sounds that could be used for game Item Pickups (such as power-ups, health-packs, etc), and other punchy, electronic interface elements, but I'm finding it REALLY hard to uncover some good libraries for this sort of thing. I have a bunch of Hollywood Edge and Sound Ideas stuff, but it's all just general everyday recordings. I have limited electronic sounds that could be used. Can anyone recommend any Stock libraries that would be good for this? It would be really appreciated. Thanks. :)
