I have a foosball table and I want to build a digital display on each end of the table to show the current score for each person. When the ball goes into the goal, it will hit a switch that will increment the counter. I took a class in college last semester where we had to build some devices that were a great deal more complicated than this one, but I dont know what kind of stores sell the parts. I used a breadboard with nands, ands, nots, dflip flops, counters, adders etc. What kind of stores sell these things?

Radio Shack is a good start, although it would probably be easier to just pick up a PIC programmer if you plan on doing more stuff like this in the future.

i have no idea wtf a nand, and not, dflip and all that other stuff you mentioned is. but it sounds like you need to take a trip to radio shack!
Is this some sort of game where Mr. T kicks "da foo'" around or something?

If you've never experienced Foosball, then I feel sorry for you. It is, possibly, the greatest table game ever invented. Typically, one plays sans hottie.

If your table uses a ping-pong ball, you might want to use some kind of infra-red dealie for the switch rather than a literal mechanical switch. Ping-pong balls are pretty light, and you might find they get stuck on the switch rather than press them.
Ah, foosball, classic game :) Personally, I find sweeping the counter across when I score a goal on the garlando in my house or in the pub satisfying, I wouldn't want a bit of electronics to do that for me [smile].

However, RS sell wide ranges of components. Then you have Farnell, Rapid Electronics, and a miriad of others.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
Ah, foosball = table football. Never heard it called that before.
