Art under CC0 and CC BY license

So I have recently found some great art I wish to use. Most of it is under CC0 public domain license and it seems very promising and safe to use that for commercial use in a game production.

http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

Some other is under the CC BY license and while it seems it only require one to credit the designer/author I am still in doubt.

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

While I know legal advise is great(as well as wise to seek) I would like to hear about others experience with using the CC BY licensed art in commercial works or for small commercial indie projects. The thing is that I have found icons that I wish to edit(I see this as adapt to my own style) and then use it in my game and then credit the creator as CC BY dictates.

But is that all that needs to be done in order to be "safe"?.

In other words what is the con by using art under the CC BY for a small commercial game developer? I mean it seems too perfect to be true :o)

Any input will be appreciated.

Note: I did do a lot of search around here and on the net but what I found was just this website(http://creativecommons.org/) and some small talk on other websites. I see this site as having a lot of wise people on the board and therefore ask these questions here before taking further actions that will secure a healthy and stabel development of my game.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I actually released my game yet. I'm using CC-0 and CC-BY in my work. The only one I'm really worried about is the ShareAlike ones. They *seem* safe, but they need to be clarified more, because I don't know whether my entire game counts as a 'derivative work' of one piece of art I make. I doubt it does, but until it's clarified, I just shoot an email to the creators of any Share-Alike pieces I use, asking for explicit permission, so I have an email record just incase.

I don't worry about CC-0 or CC-BY, they seem safe enough to me.

Just make sure you actually do credit the author of any CC-BY work, and I think you'll be fine.

What Servant of the Lord said. Take in mind that some websites let users upload content and say it's under CC0 or CC-BY, but there's little effort to verify this is correct (for example, a user uploading something they do not own nor have the rights to distribute) thus it's always dubious to use them. The content may be removed later or the user banned, but this may happen after the damage is done.
Some websites do make strong efforts to verify, but you'll never be 100% sure.

I tend to use CC-0 or CC-BY content when the website is fully owned by the author (i.e. Kevin MacLeod's) or the uploader is well known and contributes regularly.

Well I guess it looks promising then. Thanks for you replies.
