I figure this would be a good place to say hello...so...
Hello!
I came here looking for a place to talk game development with others that were like minded. Whether I want to share thoughts/ideas, funny stories, coding woes, you name it. Figured it'd be good to get involved in a place where there's plenty of people with similar interests, so after checking the place out I decided the gamedev.net forums would be a good place to settle in. And thus, here I am. Now I guess I'll just share a little background.
So I've taught myself to make games since the age of 13. Started off doing simple things like pong clones and guessing games. Eventually, I moved on from those and started trying my own ideas. I used Gamemaker to accomplish a lot of that. Eventually, I felt I needed to move on from Gamemaker and try using something a little more complex. I started with Unreal but was having difficulty getting my ideas to work with it, so I tried Unity next and I found that I work with that engine better, so I've been using Unity ever since. That was about three years ago when I first started using Unity, though I'm trying to get more familiar with Unreal. My dream is to one day make video games for a living, and right now I'm working on something that I think could be the start of that. But at the same time, I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable. It's still fairly early in development, so it'll be a while longer before I feel like showing it off.
I also have a background in music. My mother was a music teacher and so I, as well as my siblings, were taught an instrument. I picked up the cello as a result and have made that my primary instrument since, though I'll occasionally play ocarina or harmonica. Some day I'd like to learn to play the piano too. Eventually, I decided to give music composition a try, and I've quickly come to enjoy it. I've been doing that about four years now, originally using MIDI programs. After that I picked up FL Studio and have been using it ever since for music composition.
Methinks I'm going to like it here. I look forward to being around this place! :)
