Intelligent people look for "Help" or "FAQ" when they first arrive at a new site. It''s called netiquette.

If you look towards the top of the page, you''ll find a row of icons, including "faq" and "search". Use them.

Some of you guys are being far to harsh on BAXTERS.

Clearly BAXTERS is new and doesn''t know how this forum works (although he/she/them/it/whatever should have an idea by now). BAX is probably a CS or Quake clan player who doesn''t understand that this board is for serious people with real questions.

Your page with flash material on it caused my computer to open up over 46 IE browsers and nearly crash my system.

OK, now that I know this is serious, I get the feeling that these guys are not all that bad (as persons), they have stayed polite, and respectful (even though trying to get wrong conceptions through, again without research).

So here you go:

Your site does not handle Netscape right, I don't use IE for browsing, so I saw no flash, no original content at all, the alert() right at the beginning bothered me, and I did not found it to be a site worth going back to again.

Flash is NOT done in Java, Java Applications have a special look and feel, for example purple scrollbars, and the Java coffee cup Icon, if it was done in Java it would work on Linux too, but guess what? there is no flash for Linux (I am talking about the tool, not the player/plugin). Now, about the Player/Plugin, it is not Java either, its C/C++, its a plugin, you don't need a plugin to run Java in any mayor browser, also I remember back when I was making a Flash based casino (www.casinofactory.com) I downloaded some source for playing .swf files, it was C/C++, chances are everything else is too.
You can connect Flash with Java through java-script, or send commands to the flash plugin with java-script, but that's a different story, perhaps, this is what you are thinking of. (Alas, Java != java-script but it is similar).

After you said "ASP and C are both just text" I kind of understood what you meant, the "SOURCE" for those is just text, as opposed to Visual Basic or Flash for example, where everything is drag and drop. That might be a true statement, but is dumb. Its like saying a Linux ELF executable should run under Windows because PE and ELF formats are just binary!
C/C++ is a compiled all-purpose language, ASP is a scripted language to handle the HTTP protocol based on VBScript (again Visual Basic != VBScript but similar), I prefer PHP by the way .

Ok, that's enough, now go do some research on Compiled vs. Scripted languages, and whatever you found interesting, then come back without the "I know how to switch the computer on, I know it all" attitude, and ask about any doubts you might have,we will be friendly just like you want us to be, you just have to understand that people that frequent this board are above the average computer user, so you just can't come in claim to be all that and more with simple things, we are not those who think all the processing goes inside the monitor, and think you are great because you managed to compile a "Hello World" program, that might work with your friends, not us.
