I've got a treat for you guys today, Mark finished a montage of 5 types of ships for the 'good' and 'bad' guys. It's pretty cool. Besides that, I've got a video showing my newest addition to the game "Tab Menus".
Tab Menus
Well, it all started when Mark and I were trying to cram as much information as possible onto the HUD of the game, and we decided that we couldn't fit all of our stuff on the screen at once without crowding the actual game map. Faced with either simplifying the stats and game mechanics (my choice), Mark insisted upon what he called "Tab Menus", which are retractable menus that the player can choose to either be extended and viewable, or retracted, and dormant. It was a good idea, albeit one that I thought would require a big rewrite of all the user-input code to account for menus that may or may not be active at the moment. So today I ran out of other things to do, so I decided to bite the bullet and code up the menus.
Mark had given me a little piece of graph paper with some "concept art" on it of how he wanted the tabs to look and function. So, taking what he wanted, I began to plan out how I would code up the tabs (something I need to do more often). After about 10 minutes of designing, I discovered that I didn't have to rewrite the input code, all I had to do was add a couple lines, and make sure that the menus wouldn't respond to any input except under special circumstances.
As it turns out, the code I wrote worked extremely well, and I haven't had any trouble with it so far. It allows for menus to scroll out at any angle, speed, and with any sound that is currently loaded. I'm pretty proud of it, and you guys can see it in action if you download the video.
Video
Speaking of the video, the one for today is pretty short, because all I was able to do today was the tabs that I just discussed, but you can only tell that the tabs are working if you see it moving, so I threw this movie together.
WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS ABSOLUTELY NO HUMOR, I FEEL LIKE CRAP, SORRY....
