Given that I haven't worked w/ Boost or Mysql APIs (directly), what is so horrible about a smart pointer to what I hope is a Mysql interface.

Nothing at all. Except that both Boost and MySQL are the

SPAWN OF SATAN

so their combination will bring around the conception of the antichrist.
