Would it detract horribly from a game (RPG in particular) if there was no sound? I MIGHT just give you a dollar if you say no.

...I really don't want to work on audio for some reason. Probably because it's really picky and I've never had much experience working with it.

Anyway, as you've probably guessed I'm working on a 2D RPG once again. I'm going to keep things easy and build the engine up after I've finished a small game with it. I'm working on designing it out at the moment and I'll get to coding afterwards. I've told myself that I'm not going to use my code-base from DFT, but that's a lie because I'm not going to rewrite my graphics system, font system, input handling, etc. right now. I'll do that after I've actually finished something.

As I said before, I'll have more time to do stuff now that my hours at work have gone down so I'll more than likely be posting screenshots and such more often.

Anyway, gotta run.

Audio is extremely easy to add to a game. If you spend a few hours getting FMOD functioning and getting accustomed to it and then creating a basic sound manager class, you'll have everything you'll need for audio in your game.

I'd recommend putting a day into it and seeing where you are at. Once you've done it once you can re-use the same sound manager over and over and improve it as you go.

You could always claim that the main character is deaf. That way, you save having to write a lot of dialogue, too.

You should totally use the .ediani animation format for your game, it would make things much easier for you :)

what do you say to a free tool licence for being an early adopter eh?

let me know :D

Haha! I love this. You should totally do this P16!

And in regard to sound. Hell yes it matters. Go play Bioshock for 10 minutes with the sound off and tell me that doesn't turn you into mindless frustration.

Graphics, Audio, Level design, and a compelling storyline would rate as equal of importance in terms of effectiveness for a player. You gimp on one aspect, they'll bitch and throw your game in the trash.

But, you're not developing some AAA title, so it really doesn't matter now.

But, I agree with a previous poster... Simple audio is not that hard to throw into your game. Hell, even 3D audio isn't that bad. You can easily do it, you lazy bastard, so get your fingers moving! MOVE, MOVE MOVE!

Totally off topic, but I have to say... At a glance, your completed projects at the top of the page look only a very little bit better than what I do with the console. Finish something good, even if it's small! >_<
