Hurricane Katrina
Published August 29, 2005
Wow, what can be said.. It seems like I only post about hurricanes or tragic events in my journal anymore, but Hurricane Katrina is likely going to go down in history as the most devastating hurricane in US history. For those who pay attention to hurricanes, and how could you not with the media coverage, this storm was about as bad as it gets. There will likely be hundreds of people dead or missing (if not thousands), and the only reason you aren't hearing reports yet is because nobody can get to them. Thousands of homes are flooded, state economies devastated, and the hurricane season is theoretically only beginning. The Gulf Coast of the US will never be the same, and cities like Biloxi and Gulfport will quite probably never recover to the state they were in two days ago.
My parents were hit in the Ft Lauderdale area by Katrina when she passed over South Florida. Their experience is surely nothing compared to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
You have to feel for the people who lose everything in a matter of hours. Good luck to them. From looking at the member map I know there are some GDNet members living in the areas affected by Katrina. Let's hope they are safe.
Here is a slideshow of pictures from the event.
