BlockyEditor

I finished the map editor yesterday, but I just finished the instructions. If anyone is interested, here it is. It's honestly pretty crappy, so make sure to read all of the readme file before using it. Other than that...um...go nuts. And if you make a really cool level, send it to me and I'll include it in the main game.

You may have seen that I was asking in the lounge wether to get VC++. Well, I decided to get it, so I ordered it yesterday. It should be coming in the mail anytime soon.

I'm planning to start learning some DirectX once I get it (Blocky Man 3D maybe [grin]).

I have the beta for that. Never use it, Dev-C++ is just so efficient.

I switched to using Code::Blocks awhile ago from Dev-C++.

It was when I was working on Invasion, and I compiled it with Dev-C++ and it game me a segmentation fault, but I compiled it with Code::Blocks and it worked. Dev-C++ never did that again, but I just sticked with Code::Blocks.

When people start talking compilers/IDEs for C++ I'm just like "huh?"

DirectX? No way, dude. OpenGL all the way.

Not to start a flame war, but yeah, OGL all the way[grin]!!!

Thats a pretty nice editor though, the interface was a lot like the A20 editor, so I didn't even have to read the readme to get it!

Keep up the good work!

How about you use both… Use OGL for all your 3D models, and DX for all of your HUD/Menu systems?

That's an even worse idea than using Java to program a game[grin].

Just Kidding of course!

Well actually, I'm going to try DirectX because I've already used OpenGL(although I haven't made a game with it). I want to compare the two and see which one I like better.

You might have an 'interesting' time with VC++ 2005. If it's anything like the beta, with the lacking of windows.h and other important (but not '.NET-savvy') files. Perhaps some long headache-ridden nights to come. ;)

As for the DX/OGL debate, I agree that it's much nicer to simply learn both. It certainly can't hurt to get a more rounded experience than just being a OGL or DX evangelist. :)

If you want to, make sure to post your level. I want to see what kind of levels people will make for Blocky Man.
