Hey hey

I decided to enter the one week one button contest. I've been working on it pretty hard and I'm quite pleased with what I've got (despite the bugs). It's called swing the cat where you swing a cat and a person round to collect the fish (you really have to play it to get it). I made it in realbasic and had a problem with it running at 5fps when I realised that rotation takes ages in realbasic. Now it runs fast but at the cost of loading time (caching the rotated images).

Anyway, I need people to try it out as I'm not sure how well it'll run on other PCs. Download windows version. Let me know how it runs, the player should turn at a decent speed, say 2-3 seconds per spin.

Thats pretty fun, I couldn't figure out how to get up the corridor in the 3rd level though, but anyways, great game!

I've just finished playing your game up to Level 7 (I kept trying Level 7, but after Sir Swing-a-lot got stuck in one of the walls after being pushed there by a spiked ball I decided to call it quits). However, I think the game is fantastic! It's a great puzzle game idea, and your level design is really well done.

I'm sure the composers of that classical music will be happy to know that their music has finally been put to it's intended use; as the background tune for a game about a knight swinging a cat [smile].

Thanks, glad you liked it. I still haven't found a solution to the getting stuck in walls bug but its better than it was when you could quite easily slide through walls and into space [smile]. I like to think that Bach had cat swinging in mind when he was writing his music. The trick with the final level is to save at least 2 lives for the last room and run toward the final fish.

Getting to that final fish is what got me. The dogs were a bit annoying, but since they were at the beginning of the level that was fine. I actually didn't mind the big room of spinning balls, because after a couple of attempts it was pretty easy (the trick was that the fishes were in the safe points). But that small corridor with the tandem spinning balls scared me (and then shoved the knight/cat pair into the void [smile]).

I did love the game though. It had that feel of all those shareware games that I used to play in the nineties, because I could only really afford to buy those cheap CD-ROMs with a zillion demos on it; Swing the Cat would be one of the better ones on the disk.

Now I feel all nostalgic.

Oh and that was Bach? I feel a bit sheepish not knowing my classics better [smile].

I was the same with buying those shareware games CDs - so many varieties of mahjong [smile]. My computer was always horribly out of date so it was either that or some retro series. I think it may have influenced my games with a sort of early windows game look.

Congrats with Pierre by the way - very fun game. The music was especially good.
