patch rendering

hi friends I'm going to use higher orders, what's the best solution? I've heard patches are great for this purpose as Direct3D has rich support for them, is it right? can I use them for rendering realistic terrains? where can I find comprehensive information about patches? thanks in advance and bye www.galaxyroad.com
