Hosting stuff or something like that

How would i put a file on the internet so that i could link to it and other people could download it. It may be a dumb question but i really dont do much on the internet but google. I did some searching and i assume it is "hosting" that i need but i dont like giving out my email and everyone ask's for it :(. Thanks.
Most free hosting sites will require you give out your email so they can send you an activation link, for filtering out spammers from mass-making accounts.

If you're still concerned about it, you could always make a free email account with Yahoo or Hotmail that you use solely for making accounts. Even if they do start spamming you, it wouldn't be any trouble.
