You also might want to check out 2 examples at http://www.angelcode.com/dev/ - Take a look at the "Drawing on the desktop" and the "Overlay surfaces" example apps. The guy who did this posted here on GD about it years ago but I don't have the link.

That was a great link. I think I'll be able to use that "Draw to the Desktop" example to do what I want in code. Thanks!
