2d water simplest way

I am making a 2d game mario style and one level I want water going across the screen inline with the platform. e.g platform water ________________ _/\_ _/\_ /\__ _/\ I dont want anything fancy, just so it "looks like water" and maybe some collision detection that isn't per pixel. i found this but it loks a bit hard for what i want to do. http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article915.asp thanks for looking UF

Build a 2 grid of triangles. Say 10 triangles across and down. Then the top row, you can animate the y position on a sinewave.
