Is Lucid Dreaming Bad?

I can only guess as to the possible "negative" repercussions of lucid dreams, since I'm simply a fellow lucid dreamer and haven't researched the topic.

The quality of your REM sleep is the only side effect I can imagine being perceived as negative. After a night of lucid dreaming, I feel as though I never got a true break from reality, which I'd bet is connected to being kept in a state of shallow or no REM.

As for the psychological effects, if you can maintain a mental barrier between fantasy and reality in other aspects of your life (movies, games, pornography, etc.), I doubt this will be a problem.

I remember being concerned over one sexual lucid dream experience where the girl protested having sex with me and being transformed into someone else with the phrase "No! I'm real!". She then proceeded to point out all of the people around us (we were in a gymnasium) and claim that they were real too. I'm not sure what it all "means", but that was one night that didn't end in make-believe sex!

Are lucid dreams bad for one's physical or mental health?

Yes. Eventually, you'll die from that or anything else. So... BEWARE!
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
I only have lucid dreams during particularly disturbing dreams. And as long as you don't continue to thing you're an unstoppable kung fu maniac after you wake up, you should be fine.
the dreams are casting from your brain...
and this means that are not a real object anyway...
but that are creating generally from real records on brain..

before some years i was see any day nightmares...
and i tryed to control my dreams...
i can say just it is rely possible...
because dreams are just thinking...
but when sleeping they are so powerfull.
because the brain hawe more resources to use...

also i was saying some times hey i was see that before this...
sometimes the dreams can show the future...
but thats just our brains analyses...

i was able to see some small thinks about future on my dreams...

but i cant do it now...

to getting control on dreams my tecnic is trying to stay awake when sleeping...?
or trying to remember this is a dream when you see a dream...
this worked when i tryed that more then 3-4 weeks at 1998?~

but you need to know...
for able to rendering data ...
the necessary data should be loaded firs on your brain...

i dont know is this looking so stupid...
but thats are some tecnichal...
and this is not a joke completely....

the dreams are just trainings of brain with real simulations generally...
but sometimes errors occuring...
like any complex system...

also i was using that to debug my programs but now it supports just 15 -40~? chrs maximum...

i hawe a car accidend and 4 years a stupid wor with stupid peoples...
i think this is why my brain is damged...?
i tryin to turn it back but not again with dreams...
that takes too long time...
may be later...
but detailed dreams means your brains cpu or gpu is worging better then standards...

If lucid dreaming makes you like this, then yes it is bad for your health.

I don't know anything about the health benefits/drawbacks of lucid dreaming, but I'm always disconcerted when I am in a situation, and I get these weird feelings of deja vu, only to realize that I've dreamed this exact sequence of events at some point, sometimes years in the past.

Then again, you have lots of dreams that never come within five miles of asshole of coming true.

He had a car accident and brain damage. So it's not linked to lucid dreaming but just his brains. Don't worry, keep on dreaming :D

Yeah, I've had that happen a few times. I just chalk it up to some obscure part of my brain playing tricks on me.
And here I thought it was some kind of drug or the side effect of one.

You're dreaming but you know you're dreaming so therefore you are dictating how the dream should go. Makes you wonder why you'd want to wake up. Is this how the idea of the Matrix started?

OP: if it ain't drugs, you can tell reality from lucid dream, and you're not wearing a red cape while screaming at green rocks, then you're fine [smile]
