Screen Names

Back in my GW-BASIC days I made up a bunch of words for one of my games (the pass-code system actually). One of those was Rix. I liked it and started using it in games (high scores etc). Sometime between then and the late nineties I added 'ter' to the end, I really can't remember at all how that happened. Been using it ever since.

Unfortunately as the interweb became more popular it started to get taken everywhere, usually by people named Rick. When taken I usually add GT to the end.
I've considered changing it, but that would be hard considering everything I've signed up for in the last 10 years has had some variation of Rixter as the name. Maybe I'll keep using it until everyone else stops? That's unlikely.

I have pretty much transitioned on online games to Bookshelf Madness, so if you play TFC you might see me.

I chose mine when I was registering for C&C Renegade's multiplayer back in the day, and was looking through one of my naval history books for cool names, but "Scharnhorst" and "Tirpitz" were taken(luckily), and I wanted it to be "Prinz Eugen," after the heavy cruiser who escorted the Bismarck and was one of the few large German ships to survive WW2, but it had too many characters, so I had to ditch the last E, making it the famous Prinz Eugn you see today.

Playing Halo with my friends has actually caused some of them to refer exclusively as "Eugn," which is just a little nerdy for both parties...

My name was a result of being frustrated with my lack of musical creativity. The name should really be stated in a phrase, "I'm just another guitarist." The reason for the misspelling is because the screen name, "anotherguitarist" was already taken. I tried to keep something that was readable and easy to remember. I've kept it for a few years, but I would prefer something more professional and optimistic. I've tried to use jminer, but it's a pretty common name and isn't usually available. Oh well, anothrguitarist it is :)

I chose speciesunknown as a short version of the subtext in my MSN messenger account nickname, Species: Unknown\n Habitat: anywhere dark. I was depressed at the time, and spent a lot of time on forums and playing multiplayer FPS's. speciesUnknown is a shorter version, and it also hints that I write c++ (look at the capitalisation). I later got over my depression, mainly by avoiding the outside world altogether. But the name stuck. I googled it and found only a few actual hits, and none of them were used as a nick.

Sometimes I have to shorten it to "species" such as on COD4 multiplayer, where for some reason you have far less space for a nickname than in previous installments, in which case it loses what little charm it has. I have seen more than one other person using the nick speciesUnknown on CS source servers, so I may have inspired others to choose that name.

I have some aliases, "shotgunnutter" and "zombiebovine" which I use if I want to lurk somewhere or if somebody else on a CS server already has the same nick. I still haven't found something that generally suits my personality, however. I would pay good money to the person who suggests something I can use. (seriously, I'll send you the payment by paypal)

I'm quite fond of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever.

You may have noticed that I got suspended a while back, for having multiple accounts. But thats behind me. I honestly do not recommend having aliases on GDnet.

Wow, looks like I should just make up a cool sounding name. I have to say my favorite of all of the screen names here is SiCrane. Is there a way for me to have this account deleted so that I am not accused of having aliases or just rename this account?
Jeeze... I have several different completely unrelated names because I cant think of a standard good one :) Mike, mt2002, neon, Crypter...

When I find a good name Ill probably see if I can change the above names to the same name. ...I am always looking for suggestions here :) I sort of got "Crypter" because I couldnt think of a good name at the time. Also, it does sort of follow my cryptic (ak unrelated) user names.

...Perhaps I should just stick with Mike.

I do believe you can simply ask for them to change your name, although you need to give a good reason.

I just made this up, but in hind sight, I believe there was a character named Explody in an episode of Ren and Stimpy.
