OK, Following some small advice I will have a look at Python, I am having trouble finding a Vista install of this. Can anyone let me know if there is a Vista install and if not what can I use that wont cause problems. Thanks. Brian.

Uh....the Python download page lists a Windows installer. Is there a reason you won't download and use that?
This is the first time I have used Vista and it scares me :)

So a normal windows install should be fine?

Thanks again
Brian.
There are 3 different installs.

For x86 processors: python-2.5.2.msi

For Win64-Itanium users: python-2.5.2.ia64.msi

For Win64-AMD64 users: python-2.5.2.amd64.msi

Im sorry for being new to this but which version should I take?

Im on Vista Premium with core 2 duo T5450 cpu.

Thanks again
Brian.

Depends if your version of Vista is 32- or 64-bit. You definitely don't need the Itanium one.
ActiveState ActivePython x86 32-bit MSI
