Blender Game Engine SUCKS. Not worth the time. Blenderartists.org has people working with it, and all their games fall WAY WAY WAY short.
I have never tried it but I hear it is overly complicated and have yet to see even something close to a playable demo. Learn c++, work in that with 2d games and such. Blender is a good tool though.
Should be good enough to prototype, check the Bathroom Demo, that thing could easily be a part of a Max Payne scene.
