I spent the last year focusing entirely on learning how to code better. Big mistake. Game dev requires basic coding skills, good knowledge of Unity and lots of art and modelling talent, right? Should I spend the next year doing art classes…?

That depends on what you want your future in game development to be. Do you want to be an artist?

The Game Design forum is the wrong forum for programming questions.

Disagree. You have some basic knowledge, and you will build on that the rest of your life.

Game development (not game design) requires specialists. Programming is extremely important in game dev.

Art is another specialty in game dev. Yes.

Have you chosen a degree to go for? If you keep changing your major, it's going to take a long time to graduate.

If you are having difficulty choosing your career focus, that's a question for the Game Career Development forum. But first you should read https://sloperama.com/advice/lesson7.html

And watch some YouTube videos. Do a search there on “so you want to be a game developer” for starters. I'm a fan of the Extra Credits ones.
