Biz cards necessary for GDC?

Hello,

So for the past few years, I always invested in Biz cards for GDC.

But this year I'm thinking I'm going to not do it.

  1. I'm trying to save some money
  2. I rarely get follow up emails after GDC.
  3. At this time, there is no direct conversion, as our product is not out yet.
  4. The event is only a week away.

Thoughts?

  1. Save your money.
  2. It never worked that way anyway.
  3. Not a factor.
  4. You gotta be kidding.

Times have changed. Nobody you run into will have business cards to give you. Getting their cards was always the real reason to give out yours.

They used to serve other purposes. The old use as currency — give a card to get a card — has mostly vanished.

The biggest remaining purpose is to exchange contact information from someone, and often there are better ways. In these days a text message or social media contact is as good or better. If you ask for contact information and whip out your phone, they may hand you a business card, but you don't need to give them a card in exchange.

If you want to have a card with you for exchanging information, go for it. But the days where you needed to bring 200+ cards which you know full well are going to be thrown out are long gone. You can, you no longer need to.

No, it's true. Starts March 20th.

My meaning was: “You waited until a week beforehand to consider printing? Seriously?”

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke.
