It would be nice if we could figure out more about this to make interesting games. Maybe the study of emergent behavior and complexity is already a topic in science, but idk.

Looking at game of life or other cellular automata, i notice there is a violation of laws of nature here: Energy is not conserved. Things can come into existence from nowhere. This feels like a cheat making emergent behavior easier, but it also has problems like potential explosion into chaos or lack of control i guess.

When i was new on editing videos, one day i have noticed an interesting effect on a screen. Interesting patterns have shown up, like moving fractals. they came out of nowhere, and i was baffled. Asking co workers they told me that's 'video feedback'. It happens with analog technology, and it's similar to what happens if you hold the microphone to the amp, just more interesting:
