Huh.
It appears to be late, but it is still technically Monday, so here is my post.
I got tooltips working on the looting screen to tell you what you're picking up. It was surprisingly hard work.

Also, I cleared off my 100th bug today, and then the 101st, then the 102nd. Now I only have 37 open bugs remai…

So the shipyard works, then. It's just exposed a few bugs in my model scaling, but I can successfully switch ships.

This is about where I was on Sunrise when I gave up on it, except this is much, much better.

So last night I watched this film. I don't understand Chinese, so luckily it was subtitled. And bizarre.

Watch it, dammit.

Looting works
This is cool -- implemented a "would be nice to have" feature in three days and demonstrably improved the quality of the final game.

Next up will be to add 'tooltips' to this to inform you of the value, type and mass of the objects being transferred across.

What a drag.
Here's how draggability works.

I originally made this to run today and then not post anything late yesterday, but I ended up doing stupendously kickass last night so I posted that and this stuff is all in the wrong order.

So check out my awesome PhotoshopGimp job.

Holyshitholyshitholyshit
I can't believe this worked so damn well.

I know I'm supposed to wait until tomorrow morning so I can spank Tape_Worm, but holy shit I'm proud of this.

If you don't know what's going on, I just dragged and dropped some items from one inventory (on the right, belonging to the player) to the other (on …

Woooop woop-woop-woop-woop
So yesterday I didn't have a whole lot of time to work on everything; I spent about 30 minutes clearing up the serialization and state bugs I introduced the previous night, and finished up by playing a few minutes of Animal Crossing.

I also went browsing for snarky political-oriented comic strips in…

Who's a wuzza wuzza
Day three of the siege.

NovarunnerTwo big things: One, the outfitter actually has stuff in it now:Although you can't actually buy anything yet as I'm trying to think of how to tie the machine-generated buttons back to actual items.

Two, the looting stuff I said I'd do yesterday is all done -- hotkeys…

Meaty, Juicy Progress
You don't think I'd let Tape_Worm get away with his insult towards my updating talents, did you?

Last night, I wrote a whole bunch of code. This makes me happy -- writing a bunch of code instead of rewriting it is fun.

Yesterday afternoon, I talked to jpetrie about my concerns about how fun the game …

Yet More Updates
Last night, before I nodded off to bed, I worked on star system loading. In order to understand the massively painful task which this was, please understand a short history of the star system loader.
Act I: Wherein Ravuya is StupidSo, I needed a star system loader. Perfect, thought I, I'd just write…

Another entry
Today is pretty busy. I took the logo module from my ill-conceived MAGIC entry and bolted it verbatim onto Novarunner.

I doubt any of you (except for possibly Trapper Zoid) have ever seen this component before, so here is a screenshot of it in action:
It's not very impressive, but the random quotes a…

Woof! Woof!
So I beat Halo 3 last night. I'm sure lots of other people have been disappointed in the ending. Those of you who loved the Marathon series, especially, will be personally offended at the large quantity of tantalizing over-the-shoulder wink-wink references with zero payoff.

I Ramble About HaloOf cou…

15.3Kposts
According to my control panel, I just made my 15 300th post. That's pretty remarkable. This one will be 15 301.

Basically, this post is just to make sure that even if I slack off the rest of the day I have made one post for each day in September. This is an even bigger waste of space than when Pouya…

On the internet you can +b your fellow man
A few bits and pieces of things done last night on Iodine and Propane Injector: the first really important thing is that my geometry class now builds an AABB out of vertex buffers that you can use to check against the camera's frustum (as well as basic collision).

That's pretty cool.

Other stuff I to…

IN DE JUNGLE
Lots of fun stuff at work right now, and I'm still working on this damned billboarding. I think I'm just going to end up using GL_ARB_point_sprite.

More tonight after I've had some time to work on the gameplay as opposed to stupid graphics engine fiddling.

Well, that's not so bad. I'm glad you people seem to like the Glow postmortem. I've been working on the stupid misdrawn explosions still. Thinking of moving the billboards out to a shader, like jpetrie said.

Happy 1st birthday, Glow!

Here is the postmortem: PDF

I will convert it to my internal article format and put it up on the site later today.

Victory dance!
I got a fairly large component done and dusted at work. Things are looking up. [grin]

After my little depressive episode yesterday I went and worked a bit more on the Glow postmortem. That's finished and I've shopped it out to a few people (and will be shopping it out to a few more) for criticism an…

Beep beep! I'm a car!
So a few things here and there. Novarunner is still up on blocks right now since there are some very obscene rendering errors with my explosion functionality.

I worked on the Glow postmortem instead; I was surprised at how much I had to write. Right now it's up to five pages and I think I could reas…

Hrm.
It's looking pretty unlikely I'll have a Windows version tonight; there's a bunch of busted code flying around right now and I've got to tackle it all.

This bug seems to have forced me to implement an entire subsystem, which is giving me the predictable shits.

The moral of the story is to understand …

Compilin'
So I got Novarunner all built in VS2005 this morning.

Apparently GCC in non-pedantic mode doesn't consider if(booleanValue < 1) an error. So I'm somewhat glad that VS2005 was there to catch my search-and-replace error, and I switched Xcode over to pedantic mode.

The consequence of that, of course,…

Fiddly bits.
I've been working on a generic library for handling HTTP stuff on my end. It's more or less a little C++ wrapper around libcurl.

Why? Because I got an idea of how I can use Twitter to bypass the "secure online high scores" problem: anyone in the world can fake a high score using Twitter, so there's …

I did a bit of work on Novarunner in order to finish off the pre-alpha and complete my Chassis delegation refactoring.

Again, if you've got a Mac, time to kill, and a couple megs of bandwidth I can give you the pre-alpha to test (PM me for the link). It's even got a readme to go along with it. Once …

Blah.
I didn't get anything done last night because I took a Nyquil and zonked out right as I got home. Sorry.

Tonight there will be more stuff:
  • A start on a build process for Propane Injector; I'm finding a lot of regression problems because I've modified one siloed module but not others, so I want to wri…

Space
Yesterday I did little more than work out more development plans for Novarunner and fix up a few bugs inside Propane Injector.

On the plus side, I did play a hell of a lot of Team Fortress 2. I still haven't seen most of the maps yet, but I don't think I've ever had this much fun in a multiplayer ga…

Mandatory Daily Update 49139-76A
I finished a bunch of stuff on Novarunner last night while waiting for TF2 to unlock.

Of course, Valve didn't unlock the Monday release of the TF2 beta until 1:30 AM Tuesday. This makes sense.

In any event, here's what happened on Novarunner last night:
  • ShipStats finished up; it now delegates to the c…

Translation-y goodness.
Lesan has come through with a translation for the Czech review of Glow:
Quote:Did you ever hear about Glow? No? That's a pity,
because it's a really good RPG. If you like robots,
low gravity and more hi-tech, try it.

As I have already mentioned, Glow is really a good RPG,
with both good graphics and gam…

Today I started implementing the "Chassis" components of the game's actor stats, which will finally take a lot of the responsibility for the view and hull-related stats away from the actor's stats themselves and delegate to the chassis object.

I'm starting to totally understand why everyone is sudde…
