I've got a game layer up and running now. Right now all it does is show off my fonts and my new fabulous rounded-rect GUI element. Tomorrow I'm going to implement the game console so you can punch in messages to the rest of the game and install graphs to the various render queues.

So, I haven't updated my journal in approximately four or five geologic eras. This is mostly because I've been fighting with Novarunner and then self-medicating the resulting rage with other videogames.
First off, I'm not going to finish Novarunner. The basic play control is just not that much fun. …

So I bought a 400GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA drive. "Great," says me, "This should work fine."
So I take apart my machine, reorganize all the disks, refold the cables, clean off all the contacts and unwire and rewire everything.
Power up, life is good. Wait, no it isn't. My SATA controller won't find the…

I've been putting Novarunner on hold for triage purposes -- I've got a big piece of paper on my desk right now that's showing all the various tickets and fixes I have to make to actually release the game -- that is, after I make it fun, which might be impossible.

Glow 1.3 is on the showcase now, hurrah.
Hopefully everyone who's been linking to the game has just been linking to my site as opposed to mirroring the game locally. It would be a royal pain learning Japanese to go ask my legion of loyal Mac-using Japanese fans (~300 downloads) to update their mirro…

Hopefully everyone's enjoyed Glow 1.3 at least once. I think it brings the game much closer to my intended experience, although it does make survival mode awfully easy.

In a strange twist of fate, I'm going to write about my day in this spot. I know you are all sick and tired of seeing people write about themselves, so I'll be brief.

I'm doing a bit of work in preparation for pushing out something resembling a beta Windows version soon.
I want to try and tie down a lot of the loose-roaming issues with content, so I went kind of nuts and added a bunch of commodity items, a new class of NPC (merchants) and updated the readme file …

Doing a bit of small work here and there to clean off the remaining bugs list for Novarunner.
One thing I noted is that the "impulse thruster" totally didn't work out, for the player or the AI. So it's still in there, but it's not accessible from the front-end. I'll give instructions for enabling it…

I haven't been doing anything, so instead you guys should go make some bacon vodak, drink it, and pretend my blog has awesome status updates.
I'll add some more content and maybe work on the front-end menu (input reconfiguration) tonight.

Little fixes make the world go round.
The star map now highlights those star systems where you have an outstanding quest; additionally, some of the little hinkiness with the star jump vignette is fixed now.

Kudos to anyone who can get the reference.
Figured I'd pop in for an extra-short entry to point out that the Afterglow level editor can delete vertices and polygons, and also switch between "grid aligned" and "non-grid aligned" modes. Sweet.

Considering the wealth of savage weaponry available in the Novarunner universe, it's a huge surprise that death hasn't been better managed before now.
The player can now die and respawn (at a cost of 25% of your on-hand bucks for the tow).

So I implemented some stuff to automatically put together a form for me so I can handle the massive amounts of toggles that the game exposes.
Right now, there's two. Presumably I should've thought more about this before I started implementing it.
Anyway, it's there and it's easy for me to modify. [gr…

So a few modifications to Novarunner last night: added some more content, fixed up a bug with the pirate response, and tightened the controls up.

So today is Macworld. Hopefully Papa Jobs gives us some juicy razor-thin laptops. Edit: He did! But I won't buy one for awhile, if ever.

I forgot that I got paid for the time I took off during the holidays, so I spent a bit of that extra gold on registering a domain.
Check it out!

I missed working on Glow.
Here is the pre-release version of Glow 1.3. Before I go live with it, I'd like people to check stuff.
I've tested it on ATI on OS X and NVidia on Windows XP, so having people check that for me would be tops. I'd also like to see people playing their way through the game aga…

Novarunner progress continues apace. One thing I've done is write a simple command-line application for generating star systems, so I've started to produce actual content. I'm tempted to place a super-expensive, incredibly-long-distance engine in one of the distant systems, and then place an easter…
So I fixed a bunch of bugs today. The most visible one is that the star jump vignette is finally in its proper spot. Here we are flying to the moon, where we can play among the stars, and see what high-velocity flechette weapons do to people on Jupiter and Mars.
The other visible improvement is that…

I didn't get any work done last night, but I did finish the internship report.
So instead of a work report, what I'm going to do instead is give you all an interesting lecture about life.

So I finally got custom firmware installed on my PSP slim -- I'm surprised it took me so long (a whole five days, including waiting for my battery to arrive). [wink] Here is how I did it, in case you also have a PSP and want to install firmware on it, but don't want to go Googling through half-comp…
After I posted my previous sad rant, I spent a bit of time making the game nicer.
One thing that's bothered me is switching between targets; it's hard to know who you have selected and why. At the risk of offending AnonymousPosterChild further, I added another GUI overlay.
