Development Process
In the effort of making my journal more interesting and as an answer to TrapperZoids questions in my last post I've decided to do a little writing on how a game like Malathedra Comes to be.

This will be set in four parts:

1. The Idea
2. The Engine
3. The Design
4. The Implementation

So without further a-…

Wooo!
The alpha version of Part1 of The Lost City of Malathedra is done.

WOOOO!

We'll be doing another large press release soon.

Who's excited!?

Also, I realize the journal has been a bit dry these days.
So, you guys need to tell me what you want to see more of, maybe that will help me replenish it.

Progress
Greetings all,

TLCoM is progressing well, in about a weeks time we should be starting a closed beta of part1, so if you want to be in it, I accept cash or charge ;)

Videos:

First and foremost, here are two videos (spoilers) of two puzzle results from part1, they are particularly funny, so I thought yo…

Oil Painting
yup:

Added Supplimentary Text:
So I decided to take up oil-painting as a hobby, my non-digital art sucks (and some would say my digital art sucks too ;D) but I think it looks good, good enough for me anyway. Malathedra inspired if you couldn't tell. =)

Work Work Work Work, Work
Long time since the last post, apologies, but I've been working up a storm.

Programmer16 has been doing a good job getting some of the maps from part2 done, and I've gotten almost all the maps for Part1 done.

Though unfortunately my time is really being help up with engine features, I was hoping they…

Interiors
This is our first interior map for Malathedra, and probably the style we're going with, but perhaps some additional tweaks.

This is the interior of Fabricated Fortunes:

More Progress
So last night I implemented a feature which checks your windows version (and logs it for debugging purposes) and won't let you run the game unless you've got a version major 5 or higher (win2k,XP or greater), since we've got some 2K and XP specific functionality now (at least without having to make…

User Settings
Whew, last night saw a big revision to the engine, but it is one that adds just that extra bit more of refinement.

In the begining:

Game developers would install to the C: drive, and store their save game files, preferences and lord knows what else in C:\MyGame

Times have changed however, and I'm happ…

Content Ahoy
So everything has been going fine, I did a few more engine tweaks last night, mostly centering on hit-testing.

I'm very pleased with the way the radial menu system has turned out, it is both functional, aesthetically pleasing and its motion is fluid and responsive.

Considering it is also 1/3 of the o…

Yay, so the S3Engine now supports varying screen aspect ratios, so you can run Malathedra in world-class 16:9HD :D

The built-in selector for screen formats is all set and working nicely.

SO we're starting in on content again, but im sure there will be more engine tweaks to make.

Back in action
So I'm finally feeling better.

I was able to add two new features to S3Engine,

The window icon and the cursor, these are specified in the boot.conf file.

For Malathedra we decided to use the 'key-logo' for the window icon, and for now we are going with a tried and true SCUMM crosshairs, using the inve…

Progress?
things have been kind of slow lately, I've been suffering some un-inspired-ness, but as any game developer will know this is common, the key is to stick with your project. :D

I've been spending some time refining the engine which was put together rather quicky, certain aspects like removing the need…
