Is pixel shader useful in movie playback? For example, using the graphic card to do some filtering calculations, noise-reducing, sharpening, etc. Does it worth? What kind of way do Windows Media Player, Divx codec and ffdshow use? Sorry that I am just a beginner.

The ones you mention all have Directshow playback filters.
Directshow is implemented as a set of filters running in a stream. If you need a resize, sharpen or mask operation you can just insert your own filter into the stream.
There is a directshow basics article in the articles section I believe.
But will it be better to use pixel shader, the lower level of GPU,
so as to get better speed and quality?
Or will it be the trend in the future to provide better performance?
ATI already uses pixel shaders to improve image quality with DVD playback.
