Aren´t you the least bit afraid of what will happen to you if you do something that´s "new and original and has never been done before"? Ask yourself why this has never been done before. Ask yourself who would play this. Would you want to play this?

Good point, Hase. I think many players are more comfortable when the game is about something they can relate to. It''s not that they won''t try something new, but they need to see at least SOMETHING to know if they''ll be interested.

If you do something that is just as good as the next game (ie. if your starcraft clone is every bit as good as the original) and add one or two things of your own to make it better or mend some flaws you have done a wonderful job.

Interesting. I think if a game is good, people will want more of it, but from a slightly fresher angle. Expansion packs can come to the rescue, but when they don''t, a clone can work too.

You play an indie game developer who actually realises that
before you can go around making up game ideas, that you should
get a job making games for somebody else and learn how the
process works.

Yo! Back off, man! I''ve got a copyright on that one! I plan to release it in a generic black and white box with the word "Game" on it.

Uh, hate to break this to you, but if you''re here, posting...

an insect based RTS. You are a young queen in a land devasted by an atomic war and you must make your hive be prosperous. You can "design" new specialised ants by feeding larvae with radioactive materials. You can ally with other species of insects (the dreaded Rhino scarabs, the hairy Bees...)
Plenty of potential here, and I have a good four pages of storyline already (it''s a 5 years old idea, though).

LEGO building. God the number of times I wished I had an infinite number of bricks... I think they are doing it now, though.

youpla :-P

great ideas guys (and girls if there are any posting) keep them coming.. that''s what i like to see..

oh.. by the way.. i talked the ant colony RTS idea over with my girlfriend, and she thought it''s a cool idea too..

so you got double kudos on that one..

digital euphoria software

How about a fix the broken computer diagnostic game. It spits out an error and you have to narrow it down to "hard disk failure" or "windows screw up"... what do you think ..

"One must choose, in life, between making money and spending it. There''''s no time to do both."
Shopping spree !
You are an avid shopper sent on various missions to collect goods in supermarkets all over the world.
You can equip with a wide range of equipement, will you go with roller skates, will you simply run, will you use a hand bag, a trolley, or a basket ?
Teamplay is also important, assign different objectives to your teammates and be the first team to come back to your vehicle. Of course, you''ll have to find your car first, not to mention pass the endless queues.
mmm, etc, etc.
There is a lot to be done here as well. I actually believe this would do a cool game. And for once, the gender will actually HAVE an impact on the game : Women have an innate sense of good pricing. When shopping, they will spot the best prices. They also have an enhanced vision and hearing to spot sales and special offers
Men are stronger, and can eventually push their way through traffic jam, they are also taller and can reach the highest placed items... women get slowed down in beauty and cloths areas, while men get slowed down in the computers and HI FI departments

You get the idea The emphasis of the game would be on the navigating, avoiding collisions with the others customers, find your way through massive shopping centers and parking lots. The goal would be to buy a list of specified items, to the best price, before they are taken by other customers.
Of course, there would be special game modes, like the Christmas Battle : EVERYBODY wants to get THE toy. Will you make it before the opposition ?
Or the Capture the Basket mode. Like the classic mode, except that you can steal your opponents trolley if they dont watch it
Or what about the Hunted : you have stolen some goods, and you must escape the security guards that are trying to ambush you in the shopping mall !

youpla :-P

no.. i don''t think it would work..
because the mac people would say their game looks better..
and the linux people would say the game should be free.
- Now just wait a minute here, aegrimonia, ,
Spaz, will the McDonald''s game come with a paper hat or a baseball cap? - Lubb
RPD=Role-Playing-Dialogue. It's not a game,it never was. Deal with it.
aegrimonia : are you talking of my Shopping Spree idea there ??
or are you replying Nebula ? What do you think of the shopping game anyway ?

ahw: I think your shopping game idea is good
