Planning to post in Your Announcements? Does your post belong here? Posts that don't belong might be closed or deleted, or might get a better response if posted in a different forum. The following list may help you decide if you should post in a different forum, or perhaps that you shouldn't bother posting at all.

  • Looking for help to create a game? Try the new Game Jobs system (for paid projects) or Hobby Classifieds forum (for unpaid hobby projects), accessible from the top navigation of the site.

Note that posts in the Hobby Classifieds forum require approval (typically takes no more than two days, usually less) before becoming visible and that we cannot knowingly allow projects which are using existing intellectual property without permission and may close or remove such requests without notice.

EXCEPTION: If you're just looking for people to play and give feedback on your completed game you're probably better off in Your Announcements.

  • Offering services to help others create games? If you're selling something -- web-hosting, texture or model packs, etc. you probably belong in Your Announcements, although you might also consider the Marketplace.
If you're offering skills -- graphic design, audio, programming, etc. you should post in Contractors - free for GDNet+ subscribers.

  • Are you selling cheap shoes, mobile phones, WoW gold, pay-per-view or pre-levelled game accounts? Don't bother posting anywhere on our forums -- not only will we delete this sort of spam, but your account will probably be banned as well -- usually before anyone even sees your content.

  • Just trying to have a discussion? Try our off-topic forum The Lounge.

  • Trying to get feedback on the source-code of a completed game? If you've just created your first game and are looking to get feedback on your programming from more experienced developers, try posting in the For Beginners forum. If possible, include the code using source tags as well as a link to a playable version of the game.

  • Looking for feedback on your non-game software? If you're looking for feedback on the code you will probably be better off in our General and Gameplay Programming forum . Otherwise, if you're simply looking for people to try your software and give some feedback you're welcome to post in Your Announcements (bearing in mind the guideline below about "non-game related stuff").

  • Can I post about non-game related stuff?Add the two scores above together to give yourself a total out of 20. If your score is higher than 10 you should be fine to make your post. Obviously, this is a bit subjective, but if you use reasonable judgment you should be fine; unless you're a spammer the worst that will happen if you get it wrong is that a moderator will close or remove the post and you might receive a warning.
    • Is is something from a related field (non-game programming, 3d animation, etc.) that may still be of interest to game developers? Give yourself a score out of 10 where 1 means your post would not be related at all and probably won't be of interest, and 10 means your post would be very related/interesting.
    • Are you an active contributor to our community; do you post in the other forums, have a blog here or submit articles, etc. Again, give yourself a score out of 10, where 1 means you aren't really active at all and 10 means you're very involved in the community.
