How do I get involved composing music for games?

Hi! I’m currently a prospective composition and jazz studies student. I’m super eager to get involved more, but I haven’t started my college education yet so I don’t feel as if I can do much. I think the pieces I’ve written are good enough to make money, but they’re just things I’ve written for myself, which is very different from being asked to write from an outside party. I’m sure I could write given a prompt or idea, but that’s a skill I need to develop more.

Still, I realized yesterday that I’ve never tried asking around, or even looking for anything I can do right now. I wonder if any indie game developers could use a composer? I don’t care so much to be paid (I mean I’d like to if the game made some money). I just want the challenge and experience of working on something, and I’m super eager to do so.

I primarily write classical and jazz piano.

Let me know what you all think. Are there any places I should be asking? I just don’t know where to find this sort of stuff. Thanks for reading:)
