Well,''I think they are the following:

John Carmack. You know, from Wolfenstein, Doom, etcetera. Ofcourse his buddy John Romero who worked with him on those games. And then there''s Shigeru Miyamoto from Mario, Zelda, etcetera.

Do John Carmack and Shigeru Miyamoto really visit these forums?
My vote goes for Sneftel. Im not sure if he (she?) is "the best" around here, but the name came to me first when i read this post. He seems to answer a lot of questions around here and is helpful a lot more often than most people.
I have Yann L bookmarked (http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=86024), I use this as a reference thread whenever I need some inspiration.

Jim Adams is published, not only that but his book is actually useful.

As for the third, I am not sure.

This is an extremely stupid thread (popularity contest) and should die.

Yes, I realize I contributed to its existence by replying.
Yeah, and whats more; its not like we''ve seen any work from 99% of the people here; Alot of regulars talk the talk, but very few actually produce.
SabreMan
Fruny
Yann L.

edit: i swore i put the "no" in there. oh well.

It''s actually not, as the person who created this thread is looking for talented programmers, which is why he posed the question.
